About Us

By Lisa Zhou

Our Mission

Pregnancy, Baby and You aims to spread education and awareness about the consequences of endocrine disrupting chemical (EDC) exposure on pregnancy to community members wanting to start families. We frame our work with the interdisciplinary life course theory perspective to demonstrate the continuous accumulation of chemical exposure, their impact across generations, and the role of social contexts.

We embody the unique perspective of Life Course Theory

Our Mission

Our Vision

We hope to educate pregnant individuals or community members wanting to start families about EDC exposure so that they can take agency over aspects of their own personal exposure. For institutional or environmental exposures, we hope to enact change by spreading advocacy and tightening regulation on common chemicals.

Organization History

By Weenta Yacob

From the 1940s up until the 1960s, women in the United States were prescribed diethylstilbestrol, also known as DES, to combat adverse pregnancy outcomes like miscarriages. By 1971, DES was found to cause an extremely rare form of cancer for both the mother and the fetus over time (1). The effects of DES on reproductive health, pregnancy, and its transplacental mechanisms served as a model for research and care between environmental exposures and pregnancy.

In 2023, we created Pregnancy, Baby and You to bring the best interest of women, pregnant individuals, children and families at the forefront of environmental exposure research. This includes highlighting holistic environmental health research to combat EDC exposure and its impact. At Pregnancy, Baby and You, we uphold this new way of thinking when serving pregnant individuals, mothers, babies, and families using the Life Course Theory.

What We Do

We focus on empowering pregnant individuals and families to take action in regulating their exposure to EDCs. However, some causes of widespread EDC exposure lie at a societal or institutional level, uncontrollable individually. Therefore, our strength is amplified with collective action, and you can help make a difference with EDCs and pregnancy. Support the cause by building community and spreading awareness!
